What Your Home Inspector Doesn’t Tell You About Your Older Doors

dmd window door inspection

Home inspections usually involve checking the areas that are important from the point of view of safety and stability, which also means that the DMD Window & Door expert will inspect a representative number of doors as well. Here are some things that you should know about the process:

  • The inspector will open and close your doors repeatedly – home inspectors usually do not check all the doors in the building that they are working in. They will select doors on important rooms and will open and close them several times to see whether they operate correctly and whether there are any issues related to building sinking;
  • The inspector will pay special attention to entrance doors – the entrance door plays an important protective role on any building, therefore inspectors pay special attention to them;
  • No recommendations related to aesthetic aspects – your inspector will check your doors from a purely functional point of view, without making any recommendations related to design. If your old doors are warping, but the problem is only cosmetic in nature, your inspector will not tell you to refresh the surface or to replace the door for the simple reason that aspects of beauty are outside the scope of a home inspection.
