5 Things to Do as You Prepare Your Property for Winter

Prepare For Winter DMD Window Doors

Whatever the size and the type of your property, it needs some help to be able to withstand the upcoming winter without sustaining damage. Here are some of the tasks that you should see to before the first frost:

  • Preparing your roof and gutters – it is a good idea to start from the top, cleaning and inspecting your roof and your gutters. Remove any dirt, dust and debris from the roof surface and scrape the gutter pipes, then inspect the area to see whether there is any fault to fix. If you find an issue, get it fixed as soon as possible;
  • Check the openings – making sure that your doors and windows are in proper condition and that the walls around those openings have no cracks or holes through which freezing winter air can get inside your building is also essential;
  • Clean your landscape – rake dry grass, prune your trees, bushes and shrubs – that way, they will come back to life refreshed next year;
  • Clean and test your heating system – ideally, the task should be done before you actually need to turn the heating on. If you are not comfortable handling the task on your own, hire a HVAC technician to do it for you;
  • Electrical maintenance – it is a good idea to hire an electrician to check the main service panel, the circuit breakers and the wiring in your home to make sure all the electrical components will resist heavy-duty winter usage.
